WebMeissner corpuscles are nerve endings in skin responsible for sensitivity to light touch. They are elliptical structures in direct contact with the undersurface of the epidermis within dermal papillae. Each corpuscle consists of an unmyelinated axon (not visible by light microscopy) meandering between Schwann cells arranged as horizontal lamellae. WebMeissner corpuscles are a typical corpuscular receptor of murine (IDE, 1976, 1977), marsupial and primate glabrous skin (MUNGER, 1971).
