WebJan 9, 2024 · As of Git 1.7 there is an alternate syntax for deleting a remote branch: git push origin --delete name_of_the_remote_branch As mentioned by @void.pointer in the comments. Note that you can combine the 2 push operations: git push origin :old_branch new_branch. This will both delete the old branch and push the new one.
